Study: People Can Be Led to Believe They Experienced the Improbable (UC Irvine): "During a recent study of memory recall and the use of suggestive interviewing, a cognitive psychologist successfully planted false memories in volunteers of several study groups -- memories that included such unlikely events as kissing frogs, shaking hands with Bugs Bunny at Disneyland, and witnessing a demonic possession. Her success at planting these memories challenge the argument that suggestive interviewing may reliably prompt real memories instead of planting false ones."

Nation's brightest increasingly shun science (U. of Washington): "America's top college graduates increasingly reject careers in science and engineering, researchers have found, raising concerns about America's technological future. Faced with the prospect of low-paid apprenticeships and training lasting a decade or more – and constricted job opportunities even after that – more of the brightest young Americans are instead pursuing the quicker and surer payoffs offered by business and certain professions, according to the Washington study. 'With the notable exception of biological sciences, many of the top U.S. students with potential to become scientists are turning toward other career paths,' said one of the study's co-authors."
I completely identify with the sentiment to leave science. Or at least research. I originally wanted to be a scientist. But the reality of working in science changed that. And maybe for engineering as well, nowadays.
