Classical music: Why bother? (Salon.com): "A composer and Harvard professor wonders whether his craft has been left behind by a world with no patience for Great Art."

Great, perceptive article. My classical music background: I played violin on and off from about 7 to 16 years old. Went through a list of teachers. Highest I got was first violin in my city's junior chamber orchestra. I also played accordion, a funny and hugely fun instrument good for polka dancing, waltzes, and working out your chest muscles. After that I stopped both and tried only singing.
