Here's my view of good conversation:

Mikey, you talk about the weather and "where are you from" with your FRIENDS???

Sounds like you barely know them.

This is an unusual question, given that on RBJ you have every topic under the sun. The key to good conversation is not what topic you pick but how interested you are in it. It's how well you listen and think around and inside out about the topic. How funny and witty you are.

It's also how well you can say the right thing at the right time with the right person.

I'd say go for more depth, wit, and humor. Match your audience. That way anything from bellybuttons to bongos grows alive as a topic.

And when you are out of things to say, know when to shut up.
