something about the guys ...

this is something that always makes me scratch my head whenever i hear it.

what is this problem that some straight men seem to have with men who are gay? i don't actually mind it so much if they say outright that they "can't stand gays" or whatever. the line that really bugs me is when they say, "you know, i don't care if you're gay, everyone's entitled to do whatever they want, but just don't wave it about in my face and if you come near me i'll punch you so hard you'll fly across the room!" (i'm almost quoting verbatim here from various male acquaintances whom i've heard making remarks like these)

i do not get this.

in the first place, why do these men assume that just because a man is gay, he will automatically want to jump them? i've seen the most physically (and otherwise) unappealing men say things like this, men whom i did not find at all attractive and whom i'm pretty sure most gay men wouldn't either (unless they had really low standards).

in the second place, the hypocrisy of saying that you don't have a problem with homosexuality while filling the rest of the sentence with irrational prejudice really annoys me.

there is a man in my workplace who says this sort of thing a LOT. some of the ladies will roll their eyes behind his back and say that he's probably repressed himself, to be going on about this all the time. i don't know whether that's it or not - it seems a little like reverse prejudice to me to assume that anyone who makes anti-gay statements must be a repressed homosexual :) but whenever he gets on his high horse and starts spouting this sort of rubbish, i have to leave the room. frankly, it makes me feel physically ill to hear him talk about how "tolerant" he is :\

oddly enough, one hardly ever hears similar things from/about women. which leads me to conclude tentatively that It's a Guy Thing. so... guys? any explanations here? :)
