You can tell I'm very interested in trends in the entertainment industry. The music industry has gone more flat this year, so they need new sources of revenue. Wouldn't it be a wonderful way to revive live theater as well as diversify the choices we get on the big screen? This is a simple idea that sounds win-win to me:
Concert Simulcasting Next Big Thing at the Movies (Reuters):
______________
Concerts beamed to movie houses may be the next big thing -- promising fatter revenues for record labels and theater owners, a promotional boost for performers and cheaper tickets for fans....
Managers, movie houses and record labels are all making long-term plans to sell concert simulcast tickets at affordable prices.
"We wouldn't charge a concert-ticket price. Ten dollars a ticket is what everyone's goal is down the road," Schwartz said, adding that other concerts are under consideration.
At least two other bands -- Staind and Limp Bizkit -- have new releases due and The Firm is considering another simulcast in conjunction with their concerts or record launch, she said.
With new, expensive digital technology being installed at an increasing number of movie houses, theater operators are considering concerts and other events as a way to recoup the cost of retrofitting theaters with the needed equipment, which can be up to $200,000.
"
The whole idea is to find ways to better utilize the theaters during weekdays. Concerts are just one area we're focusing on. We're also looking into educational functions, Broadway plays and cultural events," said Ray Nutt, executive vice president of business development for Regal Cinemedia, a unit of Regal Entertainment."
